Woman gets life sentence in Japan for murder-fraud scheme
The Osaka District Court sentenced a Chinese woman to life imprisonment for killing her Japanese husband and another man whose corpse she used in a bizarre scheme to inherit her husband’s wealth. Yin Lina was found guilty of the manslaughter of her husband Zenichiro Kato, whose body was never found, and the subsequent murder of Akira Kondo. Kondo, a diabetic, was forced by Yin to eat and drink to raise his blood-sugar level before she locked him up for days without the life-sustaining drug insulin. Yin then filed false documents to pass Kondo’s remains off as those of her husband’s, in order to claim Kato’s inheritance. She also withdrew Kato’s bank savings worth about ¥32 million (US$354,000).
